7 Ways to Keep Your Pet Happy and Healthy in 2021

January 1 2021

Happy New Year! As we leave 2020 behind and put up 2021 calendars, many people are thinking about what they want to achieve this year. Why not include your furry friend in your goals? A local McHenry, IL veterinarian lists some great ways to do that below.

Good Food

Proper nutrition is absolutely crucial to your beloved pet’s health. While it can be tricky sorting out just what brand is best for your pet, it will be well worth it in the end. Ask your vet for specific nutritional advice.

Pet proofing

Pets are very playful and mischievous, which is both cute and entertaining. Unfortunately, they don’t know what is and isn’t safe for them. Things like toxic plants, wires and cords, plastic wrappers, and anything small or sharp can be very dangerous to your little (or not so little) buddy! Make sure your home and yard are pet-safe.

Veterinary Care

One of the best things you can do for your pet is make sure they see their doctor regularly. How often your animal companion should come in will depend on what type of pet you have, their general health, and how old they are. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Activity/Stimulation

If you had to sit in the same room all the time, you’d probably get pretty bored with it. This is true for pets, too! Keep your furred (or feathered) friend entertained and happy by giving them lots of fun toys. Regular play sessions are also beneficial. If you have a dog, take time to bring Fido out for at least a daily stroll. Even if you have a yard, that exercise and change of scenery will be really good for him.

Preventative Care

Parasite control, vaccinations, microchipping, and ID tags are all small things that can make a big difference. Keep your pet up to date with these important things.

Grooming

Brushing, bathing, nail clipping, and dental care will all help keep your animal friend looking and feeling great. Keep up with your pet’s beauty care needs!

Love

Last but not least, be sure to spend quality time with your pet every day. Our animal companions really do complete our families, and turn our houses into homes.
